Ladies 3s - 'Queens of the Draw'

In a thrilling encounter that saw Henley Ladies 3s hold their own against league second-place contenders Amersham & Chalfont 5s, the final score was a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Henley's captain, Rosie Wilkinson, opened the scoring in the first half from a well-executed short corner, giving the home team a deserved lead. However, Amersham & Chalfont responded with a goal of their own, and despite numerous opportunities for Henley, neither side could break the deadlock again.

The star of the match was undoubtedly goalkeeper Ela Chamberlain, whose exceptional performance between the posts kept Henley level throughout the game. Ela made a series of outstanding saves, ensuring the defense remained intact and Amersham didn’t score a second goal.

Henley’s defenders were also in top form. Flo Hughes, Martha Peach, Fi Dunn, and Angela Botha put in a solid, united display, making crucial tackles and interceptions to repel Amersham’s advances. The backline stood strong, limiting the visitors' attacking threats and supporting the midfield in transitioning the play.

In midfield, Ellie Roseff, Charlotte Irving, Tilly Costa, Fleur Wood, Poppy Williams, Emily Matthews, and Delphine Roff worked tirelessly, constantly rotating to keep their legs fresh and ensure the game kept its tempo. Their dynamic play and relentless work ethic allowed Henley to stay competitive, moving the ball efficiently and creating openings for the forwards.

Up front, Juliette Tomlinson, Nina Lloyd, and Rosie Wilkinson led the charge, making dangerous runs into the D and putting the Amersham defense under pressure. Although they came close to scoring on multiple occasions, Henley couldn’t convert a second goal, leaving the match tied at 1-1.

This match marked a special moment for Captain Rosie Wilkinson, who is stepping down after 8 years of leading the team. The team finished the season with the fewest losses and one of the best goal differences in the league.

The 1-1 draw against one of the top teams in the league is a testament to the collective effort and determination of the entire squad. It was a phenomenal team performance, and a fitting way to end the season. The players can hold their heads high, knowing they have delivered a result to be proud of.
