Henley L1s seal a convincing victory over Basingstoke L2s
At either ends of the table, this was an important game for both sides with both needing points in their promotion and relegation battles.
Right from the start Henley ladies ones played excellent Hockey across the pitch having the lion's share of the possession for much of the first half. Short corners were in abundance, executed strongly and threatening the Basingstoke defence, but without success initially, however, the first goal came from a powerfully hit straight strike from Rachel Herbert which took a nice deflection sending it flying past the goalkeeper and into the netting. This was an important goal For Henley who needed to convert some of their chances.
The second half started much like the first, where Henley commanded possession; Emma Jean-Jean causing havoc for the Basingstoke defence! In addition, Charlotte Granger Holcomb was dominant in midfield, providing defensive and attacking consistency. Henley's forwards and midfield continued to pile on the pressure and more short corners were won. It was from another well executed corner that Jane Dench used her disguise to slot home another goal, allowing Henley to extend their lead to 2-0. Defensively Henley were sound, thanks to a player of the match performance from Jane Dench - very calm at Centre Back, distributing the ball into midfield/forward line with precision.
Final result, Henley win 2-0 however, they now have a tough few weeks ahead as they face oppositions very close to them in the table - must win games!
