Henley Men’s 4s moved up to 3rd in Thames Division 1 with a 2-1 away win against Slough Swifts.
Slough opened the match with great energy, putting Henley under pressure from the start. Henley responded well, defending from the front and forcing the home team to resort to crash balls through the middle of the pitch, which we mopped up by the defence and young keeper, Alex Woolfrey. However, Henley struggled to get meaningful possession in the Slough half and the few chances they had were either cleared by the Slough keeper, or wasted, particularly at short corners.
Half time gave a chance to turn things around mentally and the 4s took control from the start. A good move 5 minutes into the half ended with Rupert Wiseman slotting home from close range and after a further 5 minutes, Henry Davis ghosted in to the top of the D and placed his shot past the wrong-footed home keeper. Whilst Slough struggled to get good possession, with 5 minutes to go they pulled a goal back from a clean short corner strike. However, Henley responded calmly, playing out the final minutes in the Slough half and taking home the 3 points for the win.
