Last Saturday Henley Men’s 1st XI travelled to South Berks Hockey Club in their latest South Premier League clash. Henley started the match brightly, with Jonny Taylor and Robbie Forcing some smart saves from the home side’s goalkeeper to deny Henley taking the lead. On the 30-minute mark Henley came close again, with Ed Foster’s penalty corner drag flick saved on the line by the South Berks post man. Eventually neither side could break the deadlock, and the scores remained 0-0 at halftime.
In the second half, both sides had chances to take the lead, but a harsh yellow card awarded to Henley and resulting penalty flick which was scored by South Berks left them with an uphill battle to climb. With 10 men on the pitch, Henley struggled to contain the home side, who scored two further goals with the extra man advantage. Despite some determined running from Robbie Mortimer and a Jonny Taylor deflected shot which went narrowly past the post, Henley were unable to improve on the scoreline.
Final score: South Berks: 3 – 0 Henley
Henley welcome Basingstoke Hockey Club to Jubilee Park this Saturday, in what looks to be a relegation six-pointer.
